On 24 August, three Gauteng climbers got shown a climbing crag they’d never heard of until their attention was brought to a club meet, planned by the Limpopo section. Our dauntless meet leader, whose father-in-law and his climbing partner pioneered most of the routes, led us down the dry Mphogodima riverbed, about 40 kilometers southeast of Wolkberg.

Around a bend in the harsh winter kloof, we spotted the big piece of yellow lichen-covered rock, reminiscent of Manoutsa. The newly found wilderness experience and great two- to three-pitch rock climbing has us scheming a return already.
