Welcome to the MCSA – Limpopo Section.
The Mountain Club of South Africa is an institution; established in 1891, it makes us one of the oldest in the world, with 14 Sections throughout SA.
Our own Limpopo Section is the youngest of these, formed only in 2022. It is still a pretty localized club, but we are working hard to reach other corners of Limpopo.
These first few years, much of our focus has been on getting the foundations in place: a Constitution, a functioning website with calendar, a digital signup form to join and a newsletter to follow our member’s adventures, to name a few.
However, our main interest is doing the MCSA excels at: get people out there to enjoy the glorious mountains! And please, don’t be intimidated by the ‘mountaineering’ aspect of it all; we aren’t all expeditionists heading to alpine areas on a weekly basis. As a club we’re interested in anything happening in the mountains: hiking, climbing, trail running, camping, highlining, biodiversity monitoring and much more. While we do have our serious undertakings, we aim to provide a broad spectrum of meetings and activities, from introductory (sports-) climbing days and relaxing day hikes, to trad climbing weekends and multi-day hikes through the wilderness. Something for everyone.
So please, join us for one of our meets and see what we’re all about. Or if you are already convinced, head straight to our signup form at the top and join the club!
Meet Our Committee
As you can see, we are a rather small committee, but that fits the Section. Limpopo might be a big province, but as an MCSA Section, we’re still small. There is so much potential in this province as far as natural areas go, but distances are vast and it is quite the task to reach all the interested mountain folks out there. Hopefully, the website will help people find us, and join us!
