Welcome to the Limpopo Section of the Mountain Club of South Africa.

The Mountain Club of South Africa (MCSA) has been getting people into wild spaces since 1891. We’re the Limpopo Section — the youngest in the family, founded in 2022 — exploring some of the most remote and spectacular terrain in the country. From day hikes to multi-day wilderness traverses, from sport crags to conservation work, we bring mountain-lovers together to explore, protect and celebrate the wild places of Limpopo. Learn more about our history →

Our Activities

Hiking

Join hiking meets in the wilds of Limpopo and discover if you have what it takes to do multi-day hikes in some of the wildest spaces in South Africa.

Climbing

Sport, Trad and Bouldering are available in abundance in Limpopo. The best part is that there are no lines to jump on a route. Get chalked up and summit in the heart of Africa.

Conservation

Grasslands, Afro Montane Forests, Parrots and an incredible array of Fauna and Flora that needs your help to stay abundant and wild. Join in on our meets to see how you can help.

Trail Running

Partnering with some of the Limpopo Provinces premier trail runs allows us to create a stepping stone for our members to get out into remote and wild spaces. All while staying fit and strong.

Socials

Meet like minded mountain people to explore wild spaces with and connect with those who are just as wild at heart as you. The mountains call and you should answer, with friends.

Community

Get out into the mountains with the communities that live closest to them. Discover friends that would have never been made and ensure that the mountains stay open for everyone.

Wolkberg Traverse 2026 – Reverse Edition

On the 21st to the 24th May 2026, ten of us set out from Haenertsburg to escape into the mountains of the Wolkberg. In the three years since Ray Kröger first led us over these swathes of grassland guarded by cliffs, the Wolkberg Traverse has become an MCSA Limpopo classic.
